I have always hated the fact that our church used poison bait stations to attempt to control the multitudes of mice that sneak in through our old foundation which is made of handcut granite. And we are surrounded by some grass, but we have a very large field behind our church, which the mice consider it to be a perfect home for them. Using poison bait stations has been our go to for decades. A couple of church members have been politely reminding me for years that poisoned mice can poison or kill other animals. One day in early spring, I was reading about mouse mitigation efforts. At the bottom of only one list I looked at mentioned natural predators. We have two church members who are avid birders, and one works part time for the Audubon Society. Within ten minutes, I was online searching for screech owl houses, as we have tons of them here.
I looked everywhere online, and I came across JCS Wildlife .The website provides tons of information about screech owls. But their Ultimate Poly Screech owl box was perfect. It is made in the USA: the material is designed to last for a very long time. Only needing to change cedar shavings once a year is my type of maintenance plan. They are just beautiful. The friend of mine who put them up was unable to use his electric screwdriver, as the box is too deep. It took much patience and perseverance, but they are gorgeous. And the best part of all was that whoever answers the phone can answer all of your questions. I dealt with Jennifer, who was very smart and knowledgeable about their owl houses and owls in general.
