Description

Put the lockdown on "bully" birds and critters with this mealworm feeder based on the design by Steve Gilbertson. Bluebirds and other desirable mealworm eating birds can come and go as they please while squirrels and European Starlings are thwarted. Now with 2 feeding cups, simply fill with mealworms or other desired food, open the "gate", and place the cups in the holes in the center of the feeder. For best results place near a water feature such as a birdbath.

Start off by putting a small amount of food in your new feeder until the bluebirds begin feeding regularly. This will help prevent waste. Please note that while mealworms are considered a “staple item” when feeding bluebirds, they will also eat suet (especially peanut butter suet) and sunflower hearts (out-of-shell). Suet can be crumbled and placed in the feeder cup, as well as sunflower hearts. And don’t forget - mealworms can be fed both live and dried. If you really want to attract bluebirds to your feeder, try some live mealworms, about 15-20 at a time!

Features of your Feeder:
● The Deluxe Modern Enclosed Bluebird Feeder is a “caged” type feeder. It is designed to keep larger birds like European Starlings and Northern Mockingbirds out, but still allow bluebirds and other small songbirds access. Some of the other birds you might see using this feeder are wrens and sparrows.
● There are grooves cut into all 4 outer sides of the base to allow the bluebirds a better place to grab onto when entering the feeder. These grooves also contain drain holes at each end so that water does not collect in them.
● Feeder includes 2 plastic mealworm cups which holds approximately 4oz of mealworms each. Should the need ever arise, replacement cups are available on the JCs Wildlife website.
● Your feeder is constructed using high-quality, recycled poly-lumber. This material is made out of at least 95% recycled milk jugs and is guaranteed to never crack, split or fade due to normal weather exposure.
● Cleaning is a breeze. Simply use warm water and a mild soap to clean this feeder. Even though the mealworm cup is under cover, don’t forget to clean it from time to time as well.
● Proudly made in Southern Indiana, USA!

Recycled Poly Lumber Deluxe Double Caged Platform Bluebird Feeder

I was skeptical due to price but this is well made, and easy to use, and keep the squirrels and large (hog) birds out. I have not seen the bluebirds use it, they are skittish... but I have wrens, warbers I think and a few others, probbly chickadees and maybe even vireos using it, hard to see them, but they hop in and out and eat and are very safe and happy! with I had more TRUE squirrel proof feeders as I have 30 feeders and this is the only one, without baffles, slinkys, vaseline, pepper food, etc! HIGHLY recommend this feeder! I have the large one.

I have had a small flock of bluebirds come to my yard since late January and have been feeding them dried mealworms. Once the large bully birds returned to the area, the bluebirds didn't stand a chance. The worms were gone minutes after putting them out. I purchased another type of feeder that only allows small birds to enter but twice the first day two bluebirds got trapped inside and were frantically trying to get out. After watching them struggle for five minutes, I finally went out and released them. I replaced that feeder with this one and it is perfect. Bluebirds and small birds like chickadees and nuthatches can enter but starlings, grackles, mockingbirds, bluejays, and redwing blackbirds can't. The bluebirds started using it the very first day. I highly recommend this feeder.
