Brome Squirrel Buster Finch Squirrel Proof 1016 Bird Feeder

This is the third Squirrel Buster feeder I have purchased. I can’t say enough good things about this brand. These feeders completely remedied the squirrel and dove issues I had. The first model I purchased about 12 years ago and it’s still working just as well as it did on day one. Other brands I purchased that had the same concept didn’t last, parts rusted, and ultimately they failed. I hadn’t had any finches until I added this model with some really good finch food. It took about a month and now I have about 10 finches feeding at a time. This review is for a home in central Texas.

Excellent bird feeder for finches and their kind. The occasional chickadee will hop in as well if the pine siskins give them a chance or any room.Squirrels don't tend to bother my finch feeders as much, but since the spot I have this one is fairly easily accessible for them, it doesn't hurt. Should help a lot if I decide to switch out the thistle seed for fine-chipped sunflower which I often do.I had a very small finch feeder (the wire mesh type) in this location before, and quite literally this new Brome feeder was covered in Pine Siskins in less than 5 minutes of me filling and placing it here.No clue what other reviewers here are on about when they state that birds won't feed from it - my guess is they're not terribly experienced with feeders in general and perhaps don't understand the specifics of this type of feeder. Photo as proof is attached ---- in less than a day I've had *countless* siskins and a few visiting purple finch as well. Still waiting for some gold finches this year - hope they find us - and hope the darn sassy siskins give up a little bit of space for everyone else. They are ornery!

I have had a couple of these feeders since 2014 and have loved them. More importantly, the finches love them. There are almost always multiple birds feeding and playing around the feeders. All you have to do is use a good, fresh nyjer seed and clean the feeder once a year. Notice in my pictures how nice these five year old feeders look.Additionally, Brome is a fantastic company. I have used their products for a long time now. Currently, I have nine of their feeders. Twice I have had minor issues (once with a spring and once the cardinal ring fell off when I didn't secure it well) and both time they sent replacement parts immediately and without any complaint. A lot of places sell bird feeders but there are few companies in any industry that stand behind their products like Brome.If you think they are a little pricey in comparison to other feeders, you are mistaken. These things are worth every dime.

I didn’t like this feeder when I first put it up because none of the birds would eat from it. I had filled it up with Pennington Pride Wild Finch Blend Wild Bird Seed and the birds didn’t want anything to do with that type of seed. I’d left it in there for maybe a week or two. Then I ordered some Wagner nijer seed and replaced the wild bird seed with the nijer and I have discovered that the goldfinches absolutely prefer that over sunflower seeds. I’ve seen up to six finches eating from it at once. Sometimes a house finch will eat from it too, but the house finches definitely prefer the sunflower seeds more.
